Benefits

  • Opens the chest and enhances posture
  • Helps relieve tired legs
  • Improves flexibility in the hip joints and knees
  • Aids digestion and calms the belly
  • Calms the nervous system and encourages relaxation

Targets

  • Quadriceps (front of thighs)
  • Hip flexors
  • Groins
  • Ankles and knees
  • Chest and diaphragm

Steps for Reclining Hero Pose:

  1. Start by putting your feet slightly wider than hip-width apart and kneeling with your knees together. Sit down between your heels. If this feels uncomfortable, place a folded blanket or block under your hips for support.
  2.  Lean back slowly, using your hands for support behind you. Lower down onto your elbows first.
  3. If your body allows, gently lower your back to the floor. Rest your head and arms comfortably.
  4. Try to keep your knees touching or close together. Avoid letting them splay out wide.
  5. Close your eyes and breathe deeply. Hold the pose for 30 seconds to a minute or longer, as long as it remains comfortable.
  6. Next, you need to release the pose. For this, you can slowly raise your upper body while pressing your elbows into the floor. Use your hands to support yourself as you come back to a seated position.

Dos

  • If You Feel Any Pain In Your Knees Or Lower Back, Come Out Of The Pose Right Away.

Don’ts

  • Don’t Attempt the Full Recline If Your Knees or Ankles Hurt

  • Don’t Flatten or Overarch Your Lower Back
  • Don’t Recline Without Props If You Lack Flexibility
  • Don’t Hold Your Breath During the Pose
