Step-by-Step Guide:

Here is how to practice the Tree Pose:

  • Stand on the ground with your feet together, and distribute your weight on different areas of each foot.
  • Breathe, and when you inhale, take the weight off one of your feet. Let’s start with the left foot here, which means you need to shift the weight onto the right foot.
  • Raise your left foot, turn its knee, and direct its sole on the inner thigh of the right leg.
  • To find the balance, you can push your left foot on your thigh and vice versa.
  •  Raise both hands and aim to make both palms touch each other
  • Focus on something that doesn’t move. Turn your gaze to that single point in front of you. It can help with your balance and stability and foster better coordination.
  • Take 5-10 breaths and hold the pose while doing so.
  • Come out of the pose by bringing your left foot to the ground.
  • Repeat the same steps with the right foot.

Dos and Don’ts:

Here is a list of the things to keep in mind when practicing the Tree Pose:

  • If you are just starting, use a chair or a wall to support your balance. Bend your knee and place that on the chair.
  • You can adjust the lifted foot’s position as per your flexibility and comfort.
  • It’s all right if you can’t or don’t want to lift your hands towards the sky.
  • Take slow, deep breaths instead of holding them.

Here is the list of the things you can avoid when practicing the Tree Pose:

  • Do not place the lifted foot on the bone or the knee; look for the inner thigh or calf.
  • Remember to engage your core muscles while also focusing on the legs.
  • Avoid completely leaning on one leg, and distribute the weight evenly between both of them.
  • Do not look around while maintaining balance. It is essential to set your gaze on a single point.
  • Look out for the jutting hip, as this can happen and needs to be avoided.
  • Make sure your standing foot points forward and does not shake in the process.
  • Keep your face relaxed, as that can help your entire body.
